Freelander has now clocked up about 15k miles in 6 months and, other than the odd niggle, all seems well - I have never been that impressed with the brakes on the car but have put this down to the fact that I have previously owned 'sportier' cars and I am not used to the Freebies more 'leisurely' pace.

One thing I am now noticing is that the brakes make a sort of thudding noise when braking quite hard from anything above 50mph' ish - ie coming off the motorway, dual carriageway island etc. The noise slows with the speed of the car and it seems almost as if something has worn unevenly.

I am off on me jollies next week but will be booking it in on my return - does anybody have any ideas what this might be and also what sort of mileage I can expect from a set of brakes - OK I know that popular wisdom is that they won't last as long on an auto (although I usually tend to change down manually from speed) but 15k is a bit on the light side I would have thought - anybody any similar experience??

Check your calipers. The pads could be moving as you brake. It is not unknown for calipers to develop this fault.Always fit Mintex,Ferodo,Allied Signal pads,as others can wear out extremely quick......flyboy2

Brake warning light came on this morning - called Land Rover Assist and the very nice man confirmed that the front pads have worn unevenly - apparently brake pads would not normally be covered under warranty but they will cover them as the wear is uneven. Booked in at my local dealers for 4 this afternoon which I reckon is pretty impressive in terms of speed of service - lets see how I get on at the dealers before I continue to be impressed ;-)

what can I say? In and out within an hour - new brakes pads and no charge - they even offered me the use of one their empty desks so I could get on with some paperwork.

Its booked in for a service (didnt realise it was at 12k miles:eek: ) & they letting me have a Range Rover Sport Demo for the day!

Nice one Land Rover Droitwich
