brake lights not working

i have noticed tonight while putting my trailer on that i have no brake lights on either side , so i hitched the trailer up an no brake lights on that either but all other lights are working fine... checked the fueses they are all ok
only thing is the other day the abs light popped up on the dash an stayed on all the time any ideas

forgot to add its a 300 v8i

The abs light might be just a coincidence..

However, have you checked the brake pedal switch? None of the brake lights come on until that switch operates
