got new brake light switch but it does not work so i think the wires must be nackered have touched them together and no response what do i have to do to replace wire to the lights , can i just run one to a live and one to the rear lights

Have you had the rear light wiring panels off? I'd check the earth is OK first. Whilst fitting new rear lights at the weekend I found a birds nest of melted wires and ended up replacing it all. The wires had chaffed where the loom enters the rear tub due to a missing grommet. I was amazed that they ever worked! It might be a simple fix

I'll save you some pain, my experience of series rear light problems boils down to the loom plugged into bulkhead under bonnet to chassis leg.
What happens is the loom rubs through where it enters, internally, where it exits, and in vicinity of rear lights on seam.

Check the fuse's and if you have continued problems disconnect loom, fit secure strong cord and pull it through and repair.
