brake caliper piston dust cover replace

hi folks just replaced pads and discs on our 02 td4 noticed one of the piston dust covers was torn ive orderd a repair kit from land rover £20 piston seal,dust cover,and guide pin covers . any help with this job would be most appreciated . cheers

From what I have seen the piston has to come out, the boot is slid over the piston and then the boot is located in the grove in the caliper, you then fook about for ages trying to get the piston back in without tearing any of the seals, sliding it through the boot and hopefully the boot locks into the grove.

If you can, turn the piston as you are pressing it in.

I would take the caliper off and do it on a bench though in the nice warmth, clamp the flexi.

Be careful here, clean up the dirty bit of the piston with fine wet and dry and make sure the caliper surfaces are the same, a bit of lube and make sure you keep the piston square at all times, no force. Bleed it and heh presto.

Wish it was as simple as that though.

if its any help to anyone i bought my discs and pads from an ebay site called clickamotorpart i got mintex discs&pads for £75 free posting .

I have fitted new piston seals a few times on Manta Calipers but the procedure is the same.. Good advice above about cleaning with wet and dry. Sometimes the pistons are difficult to get out, if you have a compressor just fit the air line into the brake hose hole in the caliper and the piston comes out easily, if you don't have air, leave the piston connected but remove the pads then push the brake pedal slowly until the piston comes out - its messy but works!
