I am at the point of fitting and trying to adjust the bonnet on my rebuild. I have fitted the bonnet and got it to a point where I am happy with the catch alignment and how it closes. However when I fit the bonnet stay (scissor type) the stay then jams the bonnet shut. If you force the bonnet open the stay moves towards the centre of the vehicle and is beginning the bend at the the slot at the bottom which connects to the wing bracket. I assume this is because something on the stay is not long enough to make the arc required and instead it is moving inboard to try and shorten the distance. What do I need to adjust to get this working correctly as it is not an issue I have come across before.

Somethings not right, as you say, with the arc.
Sounds like somethings moved closer, could you elongate the hole in the center of the scissor ?

I fitted the later single swinging stay to mine as I didn't like the rattle.
I might have the old scissor arm about somewhere, i'll take a look later.

ps
I was in Warwick yesterday (well Leamington) and i'll need to come back in a week or three.

I have the scissor type on our 96, I think thats what its called, it would certainly cut your fingers off if you had them under the bonnet in it ;).
Got pics of where you fixing points are?

Have you fitted the stay the right way round with the lower angle tab outbound? I found adding a washer or two to the lower mounting helped centre the scissor stay.

On the lower stay pin there should be a spring[ it is only a short couple of coils item] then a washer and the retaining pin. Spring keeps the stay over to the OS away from the tab. May also reduce rattle [ some]

It is fitted the correct way around and where as it does not have the spring it has several washed to hold it snuggly in place so it cannot wobble on the pin. I do vaguely remember having his issue before possibly whe I swapped the radiator. But this was a long long time ago and I cannot remember own it was rectified. I will have anoh play with the mounting bracket as I am sure these have oval Holes for adjustment.

Just to finish this I adjusted the bracket as far forward as it would go on the slotted holes and although still not perfect it is no longer jammed shut. So I am happy enough.
