A couple of months a go I had my cylinder head off
and noticed that there wasn't a thermostat fitted, so I noted it down on the ever growing to-do list,:rolleyes:
Today the new thermostat arrived from Padds (74 deg) and the bugger was to big to fit in the hole. Padds tell me that my engine is a
early type (1964 2a 2.25 petrol 3 bearing) and that the correct thermostat is no longer available.

So here is my question's

Is it acceptable to mod the new one by removing the skirt and making it fit?
if not does anyone know what and where I can get the correct one?
What has everyone else done?
Or do I just leave it out like the last owner?
 
i dont know the details for an series 2 stat, but id be amazed if no one has one in stock somewhere. they were pretty standard on most cars of that era. a few types would fit almost everthing.

try and find the correct part number such as (ac delco etc) and then check other non LR outlets. or just measure the thing.

I will of course try and source the correct part but for now i have modified the thermostat I got from pads and it's looking like its working, in that I took the heap for a 30mile run yesterday and it didn't boil.
So i think i will watch it for the next few runs and see how it goes.
 
my mate owns a rover p4 which has same eng as l/rover he got his from collectors car spares in harlington near heathrow i think they do a postal ser phone/no 0208892 0337 or 0208897 3774
 
yuz - yu rite grunt - can be dun - but easier on others. - if the thermostat housing is at one end its a hell of an imbalance to start swingin around.

its a lot easier to clamp it down on a bed and move a cutter.
