All I know mate is that British Waterways issue summat called a boat safety certificate before you can have a river licence. I think its like an mot. I only know this as my father in laws passion was his narrow boat when he was alive.

you need a c,o,c every four years its just a safety thing then you have got your tax that is the money bit gose of the size of your boat i will get you all the info if you like got it some where

I'm not bad mate thanks, had a quiet week. I aint been on the forum much cos I've had to run round for my mum quite a bit. She aint fairing to good at the moment so I dont mind.

It all depends on the size of the boat, whether it's in the water permanantly where are you mooring it, where are you sailing it different rivers and canals have different licence fees and licensing bodies, it's free if you sail in coastal waters.

We were thinking of buying a canal boat a few years ago but having done the maths decided it was far cheaper to hire one as and when we wanted. and you had a pick of the whole canal system, as aposed to the bit you could manage in the time allowed from where you are based.
 
c.of c is just a safty thing like an mot cost about 100 pound every 4 years its all very simple when you get the hang of it i can give you all the info if you need it
