What are the pro's and con's of each. Topgear says the Lexus has poor 4x4
ability. We live on a slope and in the snow struggle to negotiate the
incline hence the 'need' for a 4x4! Any excuse eh ?

Are either vehicle capable of this need for 4wd or is one better than the
other ? What about running costs and reliabilty and resale values ?

Thanks for any input here.

Or for the same money you could get a beautiful Series II Landie and an MGB.

Either are capable in moderate snow. The Lexus is only available in
petrol form but is likely to be beatifully built and more reliable
than the BMW.
I run an X5 and a Toyota Land Cruiser [distant heavy duty cousin of
the 300] currently and know about the reliability difference ;-)
FWIW the Lexus looks a bit like a girls car while the X5 is often
driven by girls who like to kick ass.

Talkin' of asskicking girls - nothing beats the look of my wife sitting
in my open J4 Toy L/C! ;-)

Toyota (and Lexus) are THE quality reference for BMW. All quality issues
are referenced by the Toys/Lexuses which means, this is the goal BMW
wants to reach.....

Cheers,

I know. Sad but true. This electronic overkill will ruin all of them if
no SW-QA takes place.

AFAICS there is as much electronic stuff and systems on the
Toyota/Lexus product as on most BMW's.
The difference is that one manufacturer makes sure it is reliable
before installing it in tens of thousands of cars.
