First off this is from a 2000 model (184PS) E39 530D and it's unwell, so it's very cheap, as in £50 collection only from Tadley in North Hampshire
Basically I bought this from a friend a good few years ago while I was running my own E39 530D, he had pulled it from his car as it was making a top end noise that he initially thought was injectors related, fresh set fitted and the noise remained so he concluded that as there was nothing in the oil that it was probably a problem with the little ends. He bought a used engine to replace this one, kept the new injectors and the turbo so the engine is without those bits, and of course an engine loom.
The car it came from was a manual, so while your £50 doesn't get you a turbo or injectors with the engine, it does come with the flywheel and clutch along with the alternator and air con pump. The other good thing about it coming from a 184PS manual is that the inlet manifold has absolutely no swirl flaps; the bain of the automatics, all the later 192PS models and the M57N 3.0l
So at the very least you could break it for parts to sell on, use it for a space model for your own M57 conversion or even rebuild it. All I want is the space back in my lock-up!
