Ok so was on a high coming home last night after new exhaust fit when poooof smoke from dash.
Looking today I saw the problem a wire from ignition burnt out, though it was going to be easy just replace wires. Marked where they came from on ignition and proceeded to pull it through been careful but not careful enough.
Which means three cables out one from both ends which are not related to the one I was pulling out two I know go to ignition switch but not sure where it fits under bonnet. Go no lights showing when key turned and no turning over.
Trying to upload pics - any help fault finding appreciated

I hate to suggest this, but given the state of that harness might a front harness not be a bad idea? Seems to me that you might want to do yourself a big favor and shoot the horrid thing. i did that on the last rebuild of my 109 and it's been perfect since.

It's time. Either DIY or pre-bought - before the whole thing catches fire.

i am the dealer, the golf club is for non payers and the other half when she steps out of line lol

its a 200tdi in there which was done before i bought it.
I would do a complete rewire but its my daily vehicle so cant afford to have it off the road for too long, however if i dont get this problem sorted it wont be going anywhere soon anyway.

not sure what amp wire i am going to need either, i have managed to sort out a few of the wires (knowing what they are for) and will be labelling them up. Might just be a case of auto elecy to get me started and sorted.

just seen price for harness.
think i will do it myself slowly slowly take one out and replace and label

i'm sure if you've only pulled 3 wires off then we can figure out where they go.

your photos aren't upto much mind, i can't work out what's what.

can you tell us what colour wire burnt out and where it went? and then what colours the others where you pulled out and where they went?

ignition switch will need a brown wire battery live from starter or bulkhead solenoid if fitted, white wires are ignition feeds from ignition switch

the wire that burnt out was white and was attached to another white one which both fitted into the back of the ignition switch i have marked where they came from, one of these wires goes (i think) into some sort of fuse box/relay, the other goes to a harness which zooms over the the right hand side of engine.
the other wire is a shortish wire, white in colour and i have no idea where it came from (all of them have female blade connectors if that helps)
will try and take some better pics in the morning with my camera and not the phone

This is rear of ignition barrel

This is the fuse box/relay. Attached to bulkhead under bonnet

This is the harness that the burnt out white wire goes to then it goes to rh side of engine

rh side you mean drivers side ?you have a white and brown from dash light to oil pressure switch ,a ignition live to pump solenoid

sorry the harness is on the drivers side but then goes accross to the passanger side but not check what to has it was getting too dark.
not too familiar with the diesel engines.

ok quick update,
rewired ignition to fuse box, ignition to the harness and have now got lights on the dash however i dont have enough power in battery to turn it over (on charge as we speak)
i have indicators but no side, main, dip, wipers or heater
could the wire that was all on its lonesome (which i didnt see come from anywhere) be connected to the remaining spade on rear of ignition to the battery????
bought much bigger wire cable but they only had red so will mark it up when i have light tomorrow.
thanking you all for your help

have left my booster pack on charge all night and it has full power but when i attach to the battery its showing almost half empty.
still not got power to main beam, dipped etc but do have indicators.
the engine does turn but seems like its not got enough power to spark it into life.
am i missing something??
i still have a wire that i have no idea where it goes, it is only a shortish one and white in colour (but all wires seem to be different and been rewired by previous owner) but think it may have something to do with the lights that arnt working so will try from ignition (5th terminal that is spare - to fuse box? or should it go somewhere else??????
please help has missis is giving me a load of stick lol
