Blooming doors. Welding advice.

Hi all. Working on the rusty doors.
I’ve done the bottom rail, but how do I go about tackling this curved pillar?


Any pointers gratefully received.

Would you make one piece?
I can’t decide wether to make up two side plates to fix to the base then add a top, or make one complete piece.

Actually, when I say pie cuts, I’ve assumed your starting with that straight door repair section you can get, rather than starting from scratch with a bit of flat sheet:

Ah gotcha.

I would make sides then add the top, got to be a real nice fit so it dont look poor when done.
Not done one before but might be wort jigging it somehow so it keeps the correct top to bottom angles when you cut/weld it.

Given the small number of such repairs you've got to do, ( guessing 4 as a maximum... ), I'd make the sides of the section using CAD ( cardboard aided design ) as required, then the outer piece, then the inner, and weld it all together. ...

It would be a faff, but for low numbers; worth the effort IMHO...

Thats how Fitzees Fabrication would do it worth watching his youtube videos..

YRM do the bottom section which is the same as the uprights, but not where it curves at the mid line.
They also do a section that runs across the midline of the door from side to side I think.
