I need to change the clutch master cylinder on my wifes Freelander 2000MY Td4. Does any one know if you can do this with out seperating ther gearbox. I can see the slave cylinder is in the bell housing but wondered if there was any other bleed nipples on the hydraulic circuit.

Thanks john

just put a new slave in my freelander td4 53 if all you want to do is bleed it its easy look over the top of the gearbox you will see a pipe with a bleed nipple (i made a bottle with a pipe comin out to a winscreen washer pump and another pipe the other end)
connect the end to the nipple then pump fluid in that way i dont think you can fill the master i may be wrong but i think you have to back bleed them

You can access the master cylinder and remove it's lid. The system can be bled normally but the MC has a small capacity and you have to keep topping up the fluid. If you pressure bleed from the nipple the fluid has to go somewhere so you still need to take the cap off.

No need to take the gearbox out and no need to bleed, master cylinder comes prefilled and when disconnected they seal off to prevent air ingress. Fit the new master then pump the clutch a few times and the pedal will return to normal.
