Im looking to buy another D1 as mine needs some serious welding, my thinking is that instead of chasing the rust/holes around for the next few years, I may as well get a solid Disco, then move all of the goodies from my current one on it the new one....

However the seller has told me of a few problems that he knows about:

Rear diff seal, gear-stick centraliser bracket. I have already changed this bit but it is still not quite right.
I think the rear crank seal needs changing. Again it's a couple of pounds to buy but a time consuming job to do.
I know the sunroofs don't work, or should I say don't leak. I haven't opened them!
One of the central locking actuators needs changing as it doesn't work.
I've had it since June, it's been good for me.

He has also said that there is a bit of 'transmission slap',

Are these bad jobs to fix? id probably have a full service carried out anyway, so maybe they could all be sorted whilst its in the garage?!

Cheers for any advice,

Millz

Id just fix urs mate.weld it then its solid.

Buy someone elses and your fixing there **** all the time.

Unfortunately ill be fixing someone else's ****, either way, as I didn't know my one had so many issues when I got it. Its seriously bad, the whole rear half is rotten, the chassis, arches etc.... I think it had been used to reverse boats into the sea or something....

The seller didnt have to tell you the faults , sounds ok to me , its usually the rear of the rocker cover that leaks down the back , round the gearbox joint making it look like cranck seal , might be lucky . And you probably wont find another D1 with less problems . Old beasts now and as soon as someone mentions Snow on the news the prices of the discos shoots up , strike while the iron is hot as they say

Also i didnt understand this bit ................

Yeah I think youre right, Im gunna go see it at the weekend, I imagine its ok - im just worried about buying another dog!

As for the cost of fixing these issues, I imagine its just the man hours it'll take, rather then the cost of the parts.

The slap he refers to could be simple or multi-factorial as they say. I had this and based on my experience it will be, in order of expense cheapest first;
Not fully engaged in hi range, push lever fully home!
Drive flanges gone on front, 30min job £20
Clutch fluid/slave renew bout £30
Prop ujs, pain but cheap
New prop easy but expensive! Sliding joint can wear.
A frame bj and bushes pain in feckin arse but cheap diy. You need a press to remove old bj.
Diff crownwheel worn, easy job to swop not cheap or easy to find a good replacement.
Transfer box shagged. Not end of world but find a decent one?
Gearbox wear, but on r380 this is rare.
All fixable just time consuming! !!
