Good evening all,

I currently have some BF Goodrich -285 75 R16 - KM2's - mud terrains on my defender 90 (discovery 1 axles).

It appears that BF Goodrich don't sell these anymore which is quite gutting, they have lasted a very long time and are now starting to crack.

BFG only seem to offer 265/75r16 All terrain KO2 as their widest option.

Is there any other options that are good quality, and can I only get 285's as a mud terrain option?

Thank you all!

Slightly confused, KM2 is an MT, but the last sentence sounds like you don't want a Mud Terrain????

The KM2 was discontinued quite a while back, the KM3 is the current MT.

The KO2 was their All Terrain, but this is currently being phased out as the new KO3 have replaced it, but is only available in select sizes so far.

There are LOADS of tyres available. Depends what you want really.

As a rule, a taller narrower tyre will perform better off road for pretty much any UK terrain. You'll also get better on road steering and probably slightly better mpg.

Factory size is 235/85R16 or 265/75R16 the latter normally on alloy wheels on latter models. Both sizes about the same height, with the 265 being fatter. Earlier models would have had 7.50 x 16, again same height, but even more narrow than the 235. Not the best choice of tyres these days though.

285/75R16 is fatter again and slightly taller, but runs the risk of sticking out of the wheel arches, which in the UK is illegal and contravenes Construction & Use Regs. You will also likely have less steering lock and more rubbing.

305 and 315 even fatter, but you'd need to check your rim width:

If you don't mind a heavy off road pattern your might even find a 13.50 width tyre, albeit a 35 or 37" tall one.

Another nice size is a 255/85R16, not as fat as the 285 and yet taller, but sadly limited tread options.

If you don't mind switching to 15" rims there are loads of 10.50, 11.50, 12.50 width tyres. And you may even find something up to 14.50" width if you look hard enough.

If you want muds Just get the current BFG mud terrain which I believe is the KM3. I was in the same position with my BFG AT’s. And just bought the latest version when they needed replacing 18months ago. So far have no complaints and they are just as good as the old ones and wearing just as well.
If you want all terrains I can recommend the current BFG, but as above they are in a change over period so you may need to either wait until fully swapped over of buy from several suppliers to get a full set. I have done that previously where you buy singles And sets of 3etc to clear end of line stock from suppliers.

Paddock’s are the first I looked at…..

I can't speak for MT tyres but I had Toyo Open Country's on my FL2 and they were brilliant for what I used them for - everyday road use and some mild green laning. Great tyres for the money.
