Hi,

I have taken the plunge and bought a 2002 P38 4.0l ( which I have always wanted ) as a second car to tow a horse box and also to get around the local Chiltern hills in any snow.

Looking for experienced advice on the best tyres, so as not to get the horses stuck in a muddy field but also be reasonable in snow and on the roads.

Won't be doing many miles so not worried about mpg and noise so much.

Cheers

235 70 16 insa dakars on mine ,performed great in last years snow ,never been stuck in mud either, bad points quite loud on road ,mpg slightly down, but they are cheap at around £70 a corner,

Maybe look at General Grabbers

But... How many reviews and miles driven?

:D you can beat this dead horse to death,,,,,, There are lots of happy campers on LZ with there coopers. look other place and they rate very high. I myself have been using them for 30 years and they last for ever (60-80K miles) is normal with rotation every 6-7k. Won't use another brand tyre

I think you'll be OK. My father lived in the Chilterns and my brother got up the hills no problem using normal road tyres on his P38. I use Scorpion STs, General Grabber ATs and also the Vredstein winter types on mine and all perform fine ... as long as you don't loose a wheel down a mud-hole the only time I've been stuck.

I've had Cooper Discoverer M+S Sport on year round for the past 3 years and can't fault them.

Our village is perched on a steep hillside, and I've had no problems in snow, muddy tracks, or the occasional river of slurry.

They're fine on the motorway too, as I generally take the rangey back and forward to Heathrow during the winter, no discernable difference in noise compared to my summer tyres which I never bother changing back to any more.

Most modern AT tyres are fantastic all rounders these days, whether you are talking Cooper, General Grabber, Yokos, BFG or Kumho. I run General Grabber ATs but it's hard to go wrong with any well-known AT tyres.
