Anyone know the size of the bearings in the serpentine belt tensioner please.

There is also another guide wheel I think further down which has a bearing in it and if someone knows the size of that it would be great. Just saves me taking them off and the vehicle out of service while I get the new bearings.

Hi,

Sorry don't know what size bearings, as for the tensioner, i changed the whole belt tensioner arm, can't be that much difference in cost, and time saved.

The bearing is Land Rover Discovery 300 TDI fan belt tensioner Bearing on eBay (end time 10-Jan-10 12:41:06 GMT)
New tenioner is £25+vat or £40+vat from paddocks

Don't know what you're looking at for another guide, all the other pulleys are driving summat!
 
ebay best place to get one should be about a £5 , the hard bit is getting the retaner clip out !!! just drill couple holes in the ends then use circlip pliers ,

just had a look at simply bearing /6203DDU RUBBER SEALED £3.51 not a bad price.got 1 to do on sunday if it dont rain.

Just had a look on interweb - to check - is it the 17x40x12 bearing that we need?

Hi, just replaced my bearing, still have the old one in the bin in the garage, I'll go down in the morning and measure it up. The big problem is getting the standard cir clip out, had to take mine to an engineer in the end, get a new cir clip when you buy the bearing but be prepared to grind it down abit (standard cir clips are wider than the groove it needs to sit in inside the idler wheel.
Oh and I gave all the pulleys a good wire brushing before I refitted the belt, that made things a lot quieter too. cant help with the oter pulley you mentioned. Ta2man.

Just been down the garage, emptied the bin out all over the floor, but the old bearing aint there, guessin' the bearing fairy has been round and liberated it.
I have however found the reciept that has the bearing part number on (this is the number that is stamped on the bearing itself) its 6203-2RS-C3. I bough mine from a local supplier just before xmas and they cost £5.00 each.

ta2man you could have saved yourself a trip to the engineers if you had looked at the post I posted.
 
You will need SKF 6203-2RSH or similar:

Spec: 17mm 40mm 12mm 11000rpm single row radial ball bearing, with 2 seals.

Anything with those dimensions and specifications or better will work, i nearly used a fully water proof one.

Time needed: 10 minutes.

First remove the pulley (turn the bolt clockwise to undo).

Cut a notch into the pulley to allow you to get in at the snap ring and remove it.

Use small screwdriver and tap if need be to get it under the ring and pry it out, take care they will snap quite easily.

Place the pulley on an open vice or similar surface and using a drift drive the old bearing out, I used a large socket, gently tap it out, the pulley is cast and will fracture. If it does not want to budge then some penetrating oil may be needed.

Clean up pulley and press in new bearing, make sure that you push the bearing from the outer ring, if you push it on the seal or centre you will damage it, I found a large socket that was the perfect size. Gently push the bearing in.

Put a little grease onto the snap ring and push it back into place

Apologies Discomania - I must be blind in not following the links / looked when p'd!!. I will go and buy a bearing tomorrow!
 
Interestingly I thought that it was the bearing and have replaced it several times as the noise from the belt wouldn't really go away (new bearings improved it but didn't cure).

Anyway, did the cam belt and replaced the fan belt at the same time - runs quietly and sweetly now - must have been a problem with the belt.
