Hi i have a 00 range rover 2.5dse . It was parked up for 6 -8 months and hasn't covered 50000 miles in the last 8 years . I put it back on the road lately and after a long spin it all went bad :L
Symptoms are heavy steering altenator light keeps coming up and the other day after i turned it off the engine got very smokey and now its all covered in this fine reddish powder .
Fan belt was changed not to long ago as was the rad and lately I changed the power steering pump which fixed nothing and the tensioner for the belt . After I changed the tensioner it worked fine for 100 or so miles but now its worse then ever and on the front drivers side of the engine there is a rattling that sounds like a bag of spanners . milage on the jeep is 160000 . Can anyone please help me

My apoligies I didnt realize there was a diffrent section for range rovers my bad I didnt read the lot . And im not trying to be smart with anyone or anything im new to the website but if a range rover isint a jeep what is it ? . Sorry again ... Thanks

at a guess Eamonn it sounds very much like the crankshaft pully is trying to get free from the engine

my mates defender has just done the same thing with the same symptoms.

check it out ;)
