Right then, the V8 in my series 1 has sold on to another owner leaving a space to be filled....Well once he collects it...

I have on my drive a 2 litre TD perkins prima which came complete with this gearbox below which I think is an LT77!!

Can I transfer this bell-housing and input shaft onto a disco 200 tdi gearbox complete. If yes then how hard would it be and what special tools will I need.

The reason I want the 200tdi box is I can then run my pto winch which hasnt had a home for a good 2 years now.

Cheers

if it is an lt77 then yes the bellhousing will swap over. changing input shaft is easy enough. but not sure if the gear selector will be the same. I guess you need to compare it to an actual lt77 to see.

what gearbox do you need?
I have a disco box from a tdi, and i have a couple from a rangerover but it'll be too long for your series

selectors would be no good for you tho,
I know where there is a defender box but i think the output splines are all but shot Jai

I want an lt77 gear box with a same t-box pref from a disco which will allow me to drive my PTO winch and have a higher road gearing.

PTO winch came of an early TD5 but i have been asurred it will fit this gearbox??

By fitting my short bellhousing(and input shaft) that matches up to the Perkins Prima I will keep the lenght nice and short for the S1. Already got the Rangy axles on but not sure which diffs to use yet, rangy or series?

What do you want for the Disco box???? Dont want to spend a lot as if it doesnt work out I will stick with the box I have and fit my T-Box from a Lada Niva.

Cheers

Disco box on its own £45 depending where you are I could possibly deliver was ok when taken out of a rusty tdi disco

Im all over the place, mostly Warminster, Stourport or work in the SW Devon etc. Already got a couple of bids running on ebay at the mo, if no luck then I will give you a shout.

Whats your location.

Discovery =short gear stick
Defender =long gear stick

Buckshot was discussing putting a discovery lt77 in a defender, the issue is the selector forks inside the gearbox are different, so to convert them you need to strip the gearbox-not just swap gear leaver over,also I think the input shaft is different.
