Hi All, I have a 2006 Range Rover L322 3.0 TD6 which has just recently started to take longer to turnover first thing on a morning and despite being used daily it finally refused to turn over at all, I have now replaced the battery and all was working fine but now as it’s turning colder i have noticed the 2 centre face level vents no longer blow warm air, the cabin does get warm and the windscreen blower works fine.

I have taken the vent out and checked that the cable connecting to the hot/cold dial is attached which it is.

Reading on the forum i’m thinking the Final Stage Resistor might have gone causing both the battery drain and lack of hot air from the centre face level vents I just wondered if anyone has had the same symptoms and if the FSR ‘hedgehog’ is easy to replace?

Thanks for any help or advice,

Chris

Hi Chris, I fitted hedgehog a few months ago, they are a pain in the ass, make sure you get genuine part as I got one of that bay site would not stay seated so brought the bmw part worked fine bit fiddley to fit but easy once you have contort yourself, good luck

backinblack - They all get hot, it is how fast it is wanted to get hot.

Datatek - There was no mention of up to temperature just "first thing on a morning" and "now as it’s turning colder"

Thanks Robthebob i’m going to change the FSR just waiting for a genuine part!

Devilish the FBH (Webasto) could be a possible culprit as it kicked up a bit of smoke when it dropped below 2degrees C last week, but the cabin still gets warm after the engine has been running for 10minutes the central face vents just don’t blow any heat.

I’ve had plenty of L322 issues before Suspension, fuel pump failures etc. I’ve just not experienced a failed FSR before so not sure on the symptoms!

Thanks for your help

Battery drain heater not switching off or on little control over blower.

Thanks that sounds about right!

Just looking forward to bending into impossible positions to try change something thats probably just out of my reach!

I will let you all know if the replacement works! Thanks

it took me about an hour and half the first time and twenty mins the second time.

As above, the FSR only controls motor speed, so will have no bearing on temp output only air output....

If you can control fan speed, FSR is OK......
yes Saint that's correct but if it is faulty it will drain battery . Rob

Thanks for the input Saint.V8 Just to confirm I have no fan control at all HEVAC panel lights up but does not alter fan speed, as mentioned before I have heat after 5-10minutes of the engine warming up.

The Rear passenger blower at the back of centre console armrest works fine and heats nearly instantly, I have checked and bled the system for air too as originally thought it was airlock causing lack of heat or maybe a thermostat issue but I can confirm it definitely does have the heat just not the air circulation (face blower/fan control) hopefully because of the FSR failing which I presume has caused battery drain too.

Thanks for the help,
Chris

UPDATE: Still waiting on Land Rover for the genuine part on back order. If it takes much longer to arrive I might just use a Britpart one temporarily!

Hi Chris, I had my one from brit part, would not seat properly, ordered genuine part and fitted well up to you, it maybe I got a bad one. Rob

UPDATE: Part finally arrived this morning one week after ordering it despite a 2working day delivery promise!
Managed to fit it... eventually! Unfortunately in the 06facelifts they must have decided to change the vents so they are only removable if you take the front dash of completely! Anyway after an hour of attempting to be a contortionist and some sore fingers later... success!!! Working face level fans.

Unfortunately as the part took a week to arrive and It hadn't been driven for a few days (I had taken the interior apart ready for the delivery) I have a Drained Battery... the Interior lights come on but not enough to power to crank it over. I have bench charged a spare and I’m swapping it out tonight a La floodlight! Hopefully the new FSR will cure the battery drain issue but i’ll report back!

Big thanks to @Robthebob And @Saint.V8 and the forum for the help and advice... Hopefully it will have postponed the inevitable (and expensive) upgrade to the L405 that my wife would like!
