Ok, I have read descriptions of this topic but found the description to be ambiguous. Firstly I needed to keep the vehicle on the road so made battery extension cables and sat it in the passenger footwell. The job can be completed without moving seat mountings and side rail, however my side rail was badly corroded and the seat belt mountings very poor. To remove the old battery box drill out all pop rivets and remove all side rail screws, use a 1/2 drive socket on the lower nuts to ensure proper location. Use a slitting disk to cut along the lower most inboard fold of the old battery box and a reciprocating saw to take the shortest cut up to the top mounting flange. Slacken the rear side rail mounting screws and the battery box should be able to be removed in two rotten sections. I had bought YRM battery box and new galv side rails , super quality
Items. Fitting the battery box panels is a fiddle and should be assembled in situ temporarily first. The lower most inboard pop rivets line up with the chassis rail and if left to last are difficult to align, do these first to give space for the rivets. Use 5 mm screws with tapered ends and double nuts to assemble the panels before riveting. I hope this helps side rail fitting next.
