bad or damaged earth wire

temp gauge is thru the roof when turned on even from cold and stays there been told might be a wire touched a hot part and shorted dont know where to look to check wires need a picture or diagram can anyone help please

COULD BE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR U/S. . . .oops int caps, or the cable from it shorted to earth, if yer dissconect the sensor un it zeros this will prove its u/s. . . .wot model is it ?:)
