So checked under the car today because i was noticing oil on my RHS rim. And there seems to be some kind of an oil leak where the driveshaft goes in to the IRD. Im gonna get it up on the lift this weekend and see if i can find the problem. Anything special i should look for? Oil seals etc? Is it a common problem? Posting some pics. Taken from under the car, right next to the ird.
Feels more like grease than oil tho, and doesnt have that smell that u get from ird oil.

Thanks!

after looking at your pics it looks more like cv grease splattered all over the surrounding area

all so does not seem to run all the way back to the ird , i would be checking the rubber gater first off and of course if it is that its the easyest and cheapest solution

Check how much play there is in the joint. I expect you will find some. Play is often the cause as it causes the boot to twist, this starts the leak.

If the inner cv joint is damaged, it gets really hot when running. So the grease melts down, leaks through the boot edge and sprays all over, even if the boot is intact. This happened to me once.

You could be ok, I have seen loads of those inner joints where the boot just gets loose because the clip is crap. Can often just be refilled and re clipped with no major worries. If there is no excess movement or wobble then I would refill and re clip first. FYI I Got a new inner boot from LR a few weeks back for 19 pounds including vat

Thanks for all the great replies guys! I did notice when i replaced the brakes some weeks back that this driveshaft had more play compared to the lhs one. A sort pf rattle noise when i shook it hard, coming from the inner cv joint. But since i didnt notice anything wrong when turning etc i thought there was just a little more normal play on the ird rather than the gearbox slot.. if that makes any sense ^^. But im guessing its a driveshaft out job anyway so any tips on that? Release hub nut, remove brake caliper that i know, but do i need to drop the hub assembly all together or could i just turn the wheel to full and jerk it out? Tips and tricks appreciated ;)
