Good morning all,

I had a little head scratching moment on Friday when building the front axle back up and I'm hoping someone can shed some light.

Everything going fine; I've bolted the backing plate/stub axle to the swivel housing using new bolts, spring washers and lock washer. Fit the hub (new oil seal, old bearings) to the stub axle and tighten the hub nut to fully seat the bearings, back off half a turn and turn the hub to feel free play.

Then I notice that the back of the hub is rubbing on the heads of the bolts between backing plate/stub axle and swivel housing. This is the last side I'm putting together, the first side went in fine without issue.

See photo below for the bolts I mean.

It was solved quite simply by removed the spring washers and having just the bolts and lock washers. I then interrogated the parts book a bit more in depth; I'd only fitted the spring washers because they were shown in the book, usually I wouldn't bother if there was a lock washer too.

The diagram for 109" shows lock washers and spring washers, but 88" shows only lock washers.

Has anyone had this before? I get that clearances aren't going to be spot on everywhere, just throwing it out there for discussion.

No point in spring washers if there's lock tabs.
Duplication.
The spring washer is designed to prevent the bolt from undoing, but if you've lock tabs fitted properly, then there's no need.

Yeah I'm aware of all that, seems strange that the spring washers are listed for the 109 but not the 88 though.

The parts book doesn't have both at the same time. It's showing two options.
There's a 1 and a 2 in a circle, spring washers after sept 1980, lock tabs before.
