ive got a 300 tdi axle, that had no leaks, whilst fitting it i noticed it had no means of fixing brake hoses, so i took the bracket off the old axle and removed 1 of the swivel pin bolts and fitted bracket underneath and put the bolt back.
since then ive had a slight drip from both sides, how do i stop this:confused:

have a look to see if seal lip is sitting right or has got twisted when retightening top pin bolts ,it should reseal once bolts are tight, normally

hi james, i didnt no if the bolts needed to be longer to take into account thickness of the bracket, seals look ok, bolts only out for a few seconds

they all have bracket of some description so bolts are all the same length, undoing top bolts lets swivel drop opening a gap at bottom of ball sometimes seal lip at bottom can get tucked in

i'll give it another look in the morning, would this happen if only 1 of the 2 bolts was removed

ive checked the seals and they are not trapped, the brackets i fitted only went under 1 bolt on each side, could that be causing the problem, if it is where would i get the correct brackets from

Is the drip coming from the bolt that holds the bracket? If so maybe make up a gasket under and over bracket.

no its from the bottom of seal, it must be something to do with the bracket i fitted though, as it didnt leak beforehand and has not left the garage since it was fitted yet leaks now

bracket normally have 2 bolts ,need a new seal then unless balls damaged as well ,if you only undid one bolt housing shouldnt have dropped as it would with both as swivel housing doesnt sit square to ball until those top bolts are tight

right it turns out the axle was off a RRC as it has 2 pipes going into calipers and vented discs, anyway ive fitted new swivel seals and filled with ep90 as book recommends and guess what, IT STILL LEAKS!!, swivels have no damage are all smooth so whats the problem?
