So please don’t shout at me, I know the topic has been covered lots but am unable to answer my specific issue.
The aux heater doesn’t seem to work, certainly doesn’t heat up the cabin although the blower sometimes stays on. It’s showing a glowplug fault,
But oddly, after driving around 3 miles and then stopping, I get lots of smoke from the heater exhaust, smells quite oily or maybe it’s just a diesel smell. Seems odd that it doesn’t do the same if I try the heater on timer or with the remote, any thoughts

Sounds like it needs a service or a plug goand see Tim at Spencer Commercials . He will sort you out .

Glow plugs are a common failure item, they also do not like low battery volts, they are designed to shut down to protect the battery if the voltage is low, at least the ones I have worked on in boats did that.

I did think maybe a battery issue but I get none of the symptoms my td6 used to have with low voltage, the thing that made me think it might be is if I’m sat with the ignition on and radio playing, after a few minutes the radio will shut off and I get a message saying this is due to low power, no low voltage codes though which I would of expected.
I did some research though and apparently this is common and doesn’t necessarily mean that I have a low voltage issue,
There are settings that can stop this happening but think you need the dealer diagnostics to access these settings,
Still not got to the bottom of accessing the hidden menu in a 2010 car

Hidden menu on sat nav screen?

Switch on screen do not select anything.
Touch top center 5sec.
Then touch top left corner 5 sec.
A number pad should show up
753 ok.

Opens up a few menus with info and settings some you can change.
Works on our 2011.

Before messing with the settings, I'd take a serious look at the battery, I suspect that the voltage may be dropping rapidly to below 12.4 volts. Many non essential items are designed to shut off before the ability to start the car is compromised.

You can see battery voltage in the hidden screens.
It’s pretty accurate when I checked after fitting a new battery.

I’m sure I tried that with my touch screen but didnt work, maybe I did it after messing with something else, I’ll give it another go, I will check the battery voltage, I know from my previous L322’s how critical that can be.
I’m thinking (obviously not if it’s battery related) to get a used unit to put in the car while I refurb my heater, bit of confusion over the part numbers though, my car is a 2009 plated 2010 model car, not sure how that works but hey. I think they may have changed on that year but anyone know which numbers are compatible? Plenty of sellers seem to think they are interchangeable but I’m not convinced.

Ok so the prize goes to Datatek,
Well at least for suggesting the battery may be weak, not sure if it will solve the issue yet as not had time to replace it but only showing 12V when I get in the car, drops to 11.4 if I sit and have the ignition on, supposed the car actually turns over well at that but anyway, goes up to mid 14V when on tickover, needs changing anyway so that’ll be first job at the weekend.

Marjon, found the hidden menu thank you, I’m sure I’d tried it properly before but clearly not. Any other codes known that can access other menus?

Glad you got in, I had an issue with “sausage fingers” when I first tried:)
As for more don’t think so in the sat nav screen, But..... I do believe there is some hidden in the dashboard menus which the stealers use. But really can’t confirm how to access. Yet (working on it)
Still not sure it will sort your problem because ours would shut down pretty quick showing low power on the dash when using radio. But the FBH on ours has worked fine when we have used it.

Get the biggest you can get in (battery) and many more happy days in your future:)

So the battery didn’t help my pre heater issue.
Took the heater out today and checked the glowplug, works fine, contemplating getting hold of a used unit and seeing if that works.
