Aux, drive belt tentioner

Hi, I have a 1996 p38 2.5 bmw, the belt snapped on it a few days ago, had a mobile mechanic out to look at it and he said the the tentioner had failed, that was the reason the belt shreaded. I ordered a new belt and tentioner from gsf parts and the mechanic has fitted the new belt and tentioner but can't seem to get the bottom bolt in for the tentioner as the holes aren't lined up. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cannot recall any issues when I did mine. I bought genuine off Rimmer Bros. @Rick-the-Pick went through 3 after market ones in 10 years until he strengthened the last one.

It doesn't have air con, very basic model, it's the alternator belt, drive belt. The new belt is on but only the top bolt of the tensioner. We can't figure out how to make the bottom bolt holes line up. Thanks

That is the tensioner spring/damper. It is fitted to the actual tensioner arm before fitting the belt, impossible after as you have found. The tensioner arm is then levered back against the spring to allow fitting of the belt.
