automatic gearbox

Hello everyone. I am Marben from the island of Malta. I have a freeeldnder 2006 automatic which i use for a sunday drive. I own this car for the past 17 years. Recently i am having problems with my auto box. When i start the car and drive for the first couple of miles everything is fine but then when i stop and go again it does not engage from 2nd gear to 3rd. It goes like neutral. I have no dash warnings or lights coming on. When i took it to a mechanic to check with his computer it gave him no faults. He topped it up with some oil but still the problem persits. He thinks that i should change the whole mechatrnic which i think its quite expensive. 2 years ago i changed the factory gearbox oil and after some months it started with this problem. The car is kept in a basement garage for the wholw week. I only do around 600 miles annualy. Can it be an electrical problem?

Try uplugging & cleaning the two round electrical plugs at the top front of the gearbox. Did you do the fluid at correct temperature & engine running ?
