Hello all,

New to this forum, hopefully you can help me with the following query?

I've a 2000 2.5 DHSE, 74k, fitted with an auto box.

Recently, rather than shifting smoothly up the box, it's as though it momentarly selects neutral between gears, the rev's climb, and then settle down again once the next gear is selected.

1. Any idea what the problem is?
2. How is it fixed?
3. Any idea of cost?

Thanks for your help

I had a simular problem on a jeep grand cherokee.( bag of ****e vehicle). I had the entire gear box rebuilt buy a very reputable and recommended auto box specialists but the problem persisted after the rebuild.
I changed the gear box presure sensor ( 12 quid ) and all was ok.

Sorry i cant help further but try and ask at a inderpendent landrover garage and not a dealership because im afraid the dealerships dont hang on to there mechanicks for long and most of them dont know there arse from there elbow.

COUGH COUGH LOL

check the ATF and see what colour it is, if its brown/black and smells the the gearbox is nackered, if not then it could be an ecu/sensor problem but that is unlikely

It does sound like the early stages of gearbox failure, the climbing of the rpm when it changes gear is the box slipping

Hi. I too have a RR DSE -97 auto that has the same symptomes(only between third and fourth) as yours, gmc.
I've booked a diagnose at Land Rover in september. (they have theire doing...)

Oil and filter is new. The color of the ATF was not clearly red but a little to the dark orange or light brown. That doesn't seems god. There is probably some clutch slipping between third and fourth.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
