I've been offered a 300tdi disco auto for not a great sum of money, I'm currently caging my 90 for trials and wondering if I should convert to auto ? Just want your thoughts really :)

Autos are as good off road as a manual, It all depends what you like.
Have a good play in the disco and see how you go on

i prefer them but it is horses for courses ,amongst other things the ability to stand still or creep without using the clutch is useful as is not having to use hand brake on hill starts etc

I've owned both manual and auto 300tdi Discoveries. I wouldn't go back to a manual for off road driving now.
This is just my preference though as some people it suits, others it doesn't.

However, I much preferred the manual for normal road driving.

I'm leaning towards doing it to be honest, shouldn't be too hard to swap over, the autos are stronger than my lt77, the gearbox is healthy but I do tend to slip the clutch to crawl ect which isn't good for it, plus I'm not light footed so it should stand up better than the manual per time and the creep speed would be useful the only thing that puts be off is the actual conversion and the loss of some control on downhills with engine breaking, would it fit onto my 200tdi easily or would keeping the 300 on it be the better option, quick question is the bellhousing short on the auto like the lt77 90 type or long? Sorry for the ammount if questions lol :D

Mooing Cow syndrome!!!

Manual all the way being able especially with a tdi to pull away hard in comps can be a good thing but horses for sourses I prefer manual.
