AUTO GEARBOX PROBLEMS

Can anyone help with advice as to the problem with this transmission.
4litre Gems 1999.The problem started when we lost 4th gear,it then decided to not up change from 1st and reverse is still available.
We have changed the oil and had the valve block cleaned but nothing has changed,the lights on the dash show the connection to the gear shift but nothing actually happens in the box.
Anyone know what thye problen may be.

Have you checked the level with the engine running and after selecting all gears?

+1 on double check the fluid level according to RAVE. Also check diagnostics.

Are you saying that the dash shows which gear is selected?

So that rules out the selector cable and the XYZ switch. You say "levels correct as per the book", is that cold with the engine idling after selecting all gears?

Yes it is done correctly,does the dash read from the XYZ or from the lever

From the XYZ switch. The lever just operates the cable to the gearbox & switch.

So it would seem to be a box fault,we have tried a new valve block and oil change,plus all the electrical components so it looks as like a box change.

I was going to suggest checking the valve block bolts are tight (thanks Henry b) but as you have changed the valve block you will have done that. @Bemble is the expert.
