So after a week or so of having my disco, I decided to make it a bit more modern. I bought a disco 3 gear knob and some black carbon fibre vinyl to cover my wood finish.

I removed the wood effect centre console cover and simply laid a sheet of the vinyl over the top. It was pretty easy to do and only took about 30 mins. I think it looks great and gives it that slightly more modern look I was going for.

I ordered the disco 3 gear knob online for £68!!! Yeah pretty pricey but it is a LR one. I had to file down the end of the new one to make the little nipple bit at the end sit into the gear selector correctly. Again this only took about half hour to fit!

The finished result I'm really pleased with. Ill upload a picture in a minute. Just thought I'd share my upgrades as I do them, seeming as I read on here everyday seeing what other people have done.

Nice upgrade, would be interested if you could add a picture of the bit that you had to file down if you have one
 
Yeah I have covered the door and dash parts at the same time. I bought the gear knob from powerful uk. They have a video on how to fit the gear knob. Ill post a link tomorrow.
 
That's the one discool. I see your based in Kent, i go there every few weeks for work, are there any good locations down your way to pay as you drive off roading?

I thought I would beat u to it with the link :) it's a company I haven't heard of before, they have a quick and interesting site.

Off roading I don't do M8, I don't have the time is my excuse, anyway mud on my disco no way :D
Went a couple of times to an off road site at the Hop Farm in Beltring with a Land Rover dealer who were trying to flog me a new D2 but that was a long while ago so may not be there now.
 
I would like to go off road a bit, but i'm scared of damaging the disco! Some of the videos showing what these 4x4's can really do are amazing, but i don't have the balls for going underwater! That's why i thought a pay and play course would be better for me as i can choose the routes i wish to take and avoid any that look like it may hurt!

I'm upgrading the lights to the facelift in the next few weeks so i'll put some pics up of that too. This website is really good too. www.discovery2.co.uk

It stopped being a LR experience site years ago and the off road track stopped being used.

LR then started using Eastwell manor in Ashford and then pulled out of that.

A new company The 4x4 solutions took over the Eastwell site and I know people that have used them with good reviews although not tried them myself. And then to bring it full circle they have now pulled out of Eastwell as there is another 4x4 operator there (don't know who) and are reopening the Hop Farm track. Have a look at the link for details.

Other than that the only other Kent 4x4 site is the one being developed at the Dettling showground by Charlie Thorn for use at the Kent 4x4 show that is happening for the first time this year. I don't think this is going to be a pay and play site though

Nearest other site is Essex Off Road which I have used a number of times and is a good (albeit small) site.

I know I know... Hijack thread - but......

The Hop Farm is being opened again as a 4x4 site by the 4x4 Solutions guys... Have a look at their web site - they left the Ashford site. Opening again on the 2nd March.

Nice upgrade by the way!!!

Seems to be some good places around. Most of the ones i have seen are quite expensive since you hire the 4x4 rather than taking your own. I actually live in Bristol but like i said work in Kent every few weeks. On second thoughts it's probably safer to do any off roading closer to home, in case it all went horribly wrong! I know there are lots of green lanes around my area but i don't feel 100% comfortable driving up a track and coming across a family on a Sunday stroll. I think i would be more happy with a designated 4x4 pay and play area.

Does anyone on here go green laning???? Have you come across any awkward moments with other member of the public not in 4x4s?? Kind of a change of subject here...... The gear knob works great though!
 
Looks really well.

I have a big roll of carbon effect sticky vinyl, and slightly stained woodwork, so i'll give it a go this weekend
