I am worried about recent problems with the gearbox in my 2007 4.2 SC. Mileage is 76,500, owned since September last year. In the last couple of weeks there have been half a dozen occasions when the car will not pull away, it just revs. Also, when approaching a roundabout recently there was a 'crunch' as if I started pulling away just as the box changed down to first and then it had to change up to second if that makes sense! (this has only happened once). The 'trigger' on the gear selector appears to have failed, i.e. you can push it from D to N without depressing the trigger - could it be this, i.e. it's slipping into neutral? The car drives fine the rest of the time, although thinking about it the gearchange has felt a bit strange. Having read other threads on here about similar problems I am concerned that the gearbox may be on it's way out. Any advice/comments welcome. Thanks.
 
I know this is a different model, but the gearbox 'method of operation' I believe is the same with Command shift and all the other toys..... we have a 2011 Disco 4 at work, and you can select D & N without using the locking lever.

Has to be pressed from P through to N, but can be pushed from D to N and back without it, and on saying this I currently have an Automatic Astra 2010 as a courtsey car while my company car is being reapired and you can do the same in that too....

The L322 (Full Fat Rangie) does suffer from Gearbox issues, I am not sure if the L320 (Sport) suffers the same thing, after about 70-80k the 'box gives up and needs replacing or overhaul......not sure if this applies to the Sport....

Just realised I am assuming it is a Sport....is it? or is it the L322 ??

A member on here, JamesMartin, is very knowledgable on auto boxes, so he may be able to shed further light for you.....it might not be the doom I have made it out to be.
 
very coman issue the fault is a mechanical failure of the box mainly the solenoid valve block and proberly one or two of the clutch drums. get the ecu tested if it comes up with a algorythm fault then it is mechanical failure

there is a modified software for the ecu and the engine too i would recomend getting the box tested but it will be a recon unit.
then get the ecus updated
i have tried a oil and filter change but it locked out of forth gear had the box removed and stripped it was fubar inside.
 
There’s a Service Bulletin for the 6HP26 where the clamp bolt at the end of the selector cable (under the car) seizes through corrosion which no longer allows it to pivot and causes the transmission to drop into Neutral and the selector lever becomes stiff. Just needs attacking with some WD40.

Certainly, if you have access to a ramp/lift it would be a simple job to do yourself. If not, then any local garage could sort it – you don’t need to pay Land Rover hourly rates.....

Very pleased (and relieved!) to report that the problem was due to the clamp bolt and not anything more sinister (and expensive!). Now sorted.
