Are these mirrors original or after market?

I just bought these mirrors from two different sources - both described as a genuine Land Rover mirror (manufactured by Land Rover). So naturally I expected to see 'Land Rover' stamped on them but they both have Britax stamped instead.

Can anyone throw any light on this? one of the mirrors came from lrdirect which also lists a 'Britax OEM mirror' - which is what I suspect I got?

Pic of the mirror is attached.

Cheers

That looks like an early series 3 door mirror to me? others may be able to confirm . My originals replaced last month had Britax on them. I believe they were the oem supplier.

Backs are plastic on mine but its a later s3 which had defender type mirrors.
My replacements were bearmach but identical to britax ones removed.

Genuine and OEM should be exactly the same thing apart from lr logo on the box. Found this with a few items. In the case of your mirrors, they never had land rover printed on them, only britax

Mine have metal mirrors on the door frame, presume its just a case of which ones were around.

Fender ones fit anyway but those look series as most of the fender ones I've seen the movement is concealed

Yep Series mirrors. I just wonder if anyone has seen the factory original version of them - if there's such a thing (with Land Rover branding). And I would have thought the original ones would have had a metal backing - these are plastic.

Here's a pic of mine installed. I had to drill the holes by the way which is a bit tedious - the holes are quite close to the edge of the hinge body.

They are slightly different - different clamp on the back. Mine has a chunky(ish) plastic clamp. Doesn't matter that much anyway. It was more that the site I bought it off described it as being a genuine original land rover mirror - manufactured by land rover - with land rover branding. But they sent me a Britax.. which I could have got for less than half what I paid. Just annoying!

I'm trying to work something out with them now - hitting some resistance though. A refund means I'd have to send them back which isn't worth it (shipping cost from NZ to UK). So asking for them to refund the diff between what I paid and what they offer the Britax OEM mirror for - which seems totally reasonable to me. Trouble is they're claiming Hunters Landrover supplied them the part - so Hunters is selling Britax OEM mirrors for the twice the price of anyone else and I'm the monkey that got conned into buying one grrrr

Just been reading into mirror types and model years.
Apparently from 1977 the mirrors were moved from wings to door hinge mounts. They were rounded edges with clamp type adjustment. As this mounting type often seized, the larger defender style mirror with ball seating was fitted from VIN 119765 (4 cylinders) and 117546 (v8 models)

Can I have my rivet counter certificate now? :D

Awesome info.. thanks! although my VIN starts with 'SAL' (1984). Don't suppose you know how the defender type mirror attaches? looks as though its to the hinge as well. I considered the defender style mirror - the only reason I didn't is I prefer the old school look of clamp type. Functionally they are pretty average - especially the passenger mirror! but they look cool
