Hi there, just been inspecting the 3rd/4th synchro unit on my old box, I have no idea what I'm looking for in terms of wear but one end has a kind of groove worn into the serrated face. The box had an ok change and there was never any obvious issue with the synchro 3rd/4th.

I'm inclined to leave it as is, but seeing as its all apart and would potentially benefit from a new unit, should I replace the unit (or bits of the unit)?

Also while I am at it, does anyone recommend any particular bits to replace while its all apart? I'm doing all the bearings and seals (plus gaskets of course), should I do the distance piece etc...?

Thanks in advance

Worn side

Other side (looks to have no groove)

looks fine ,replace springs rtc1956 only use oe or genuine cheap ones arent going to last above a day or so ,remember it only fits one way round and put it in 3rd gear position to aid fitting fork later

Hi there, stuck again.... anybody got any techniques, tips, spells to get the snap ring off the mainshaft; think its on2nd3rd gear? i have tried with thin screwdrivers but its so awkward!
Or shall i just leave it on and not bother swapping the distance piece?
thanks in advance

i would ,snap ring sits over 3rd gear then 2nd then first on rear of m/s ,baulk rings should be replaced if look worn and when pressed onto gear cone theres less than 25 thou gap between the 2 ,allways check new ones too,
