Yep I had one on my last freelander, the thermostat position is the reason why the K series head gasket fails all the time so this sorts that out. My dad has still got it and hes had no problems with it. I would definitely recommend it

I may be thick mainly cos im new to freelanders (not landrover) but what does this do?

not looked at engine or got my Haynes book of lies where is the thermostat on standard and where does this move it

The standard K series thermostat fits inside the pump housing at the back of the engine. The problem is, it is fitted into the return pipe. This allows the engine to get too hot before the stat opens. When it does open the engine is rapidly cooled by the rush of coolant from the rad. In time this continual cooling causes the head gasket to delaminate. The PRT stat you linked fits between the top and bottom rad hoses. It contains a spring loaded valve that allows some coolant to circulate before the internal stat opens. This reduces the rapid cooling and extends the HG life. The original stat is also replaced by a reducer.
