Anyone here use fluid film undercoating?

Hi everyone just seeing if any of you use fluid film undercoating, just got 2 gallons of the stuff ready for treating my Land Rover

So far as I can tell it's the same as that lanoguard stuff that's been pouring money into marketing campaigns, but without the price tag.

You can also buy anhydrous lanolin off eBay etc and just mix with your solvent of choice. Would probably do the same.

Please do tell us how you get on.

similar bunch of solvents, but does not mention lanolin at all (possibly as its not actually required to be in the COSHH - their product description certainly says thats whats in it)

Thanks mate, I normally use diesel and oil and granted it does work very well so hopefully this will be alright, was going to get the lanoguard but wanted the fluid film black because I love the black finish, I’ll get some before and after and post them on here, also got the sealey undercoating gun kit with the 360 wand for inside all the holes lol

I’ve recently drowned a Disco 3 and a Defender 90 in Lanoguard, I’m happy with the results - let’s see what it’s like in 6/12Mths

Wow - the difference in price is significant. If its the same type of stuff then fluid film is definitely more cost effective than Lanoguard.

I was toying with buying some more Lanoguard but I do think it is expensive for what it is.

Fluid film 18.2lts = £128 delivered.
Lanoguard 5lts = £105 (approx) delivered

That's a big difference if it's the same/similar gear!

Definitely mate, look up fluid film on you tube it does look the dogs nuts, i haven’t applied it yet but I ended up ordering 2 more gallons because on brittania restorations on you tube Mike ended up using 12 litres overall on a defender like mine so didn’t want to be cut short kind of thing, where are you getting it at that price, I ended up paying more than that

Wow, 12 litres. I must admit I had 2 litres and was disappointed with how far it went. I managed the outside of the 90 chassis but not much more.

That’s a good price that is, I’m planning to fill the chassis up with my 360 lance, and also drill the bulkhead and fit rubber bungs as per the army do or at least used to do, I used near 8 litres last time but didn’t really go to town on it

Thanks, yeah 2l is no where near enough to do the job properly

Fluid film arrived yesterday. 18.92 litres (5 US gallons) for £126.90 delivered. Should go further than the 2ltrs of Lanoguard!

Just a note to any of you folks rushing to place an order for fluid film. I have tried it in the Lanoguard sprayer and it won't go as a spray, just a jet, which isn't what I want. This will mean I have to follow the application with brushing or a rag - which is not what I want!

I will give a bit more feedback later!

I think you need airless sprayers like the Wagner ones to get the pressure required to atomise it

I have been applying it just now and it seems to have started atomising. It had been in the car overnight and that said 10 degrees C on the display when I got it out, so perhaps it has warmed up a bit.

I will put more up later.

This is what the fluid film black looks like if you spray it with a bit of care, sealey undercoating gun with the bent metal lance, compressor set to 80 - 90 psi, mine when on a week before i drove it in the rain, some areas appear to have washed off in the arch above the wheels but everywhere else is still holding on strong ( this was a few weeks ago now ) put the tin in a bucket of boiling water and mix it very well

The stuff I got was clear. When applied the area at the moment just looks wet, so I will have to see how it looks in a week+. I have only done a small area as I had sprayed Lanoguard a few months ago and it's hardly been out since. The exhaust is off at the moment so I am trying to do the areas that look dry above it.

Spread with a paint brush.

It goes on easily enough but it isn't even. It dribbles and runs so smoothing out with a brush improves how it coats the surfaces it's on.

It is thin enough to spray into holes and between things so is good in that way. Unfortunately as its thin it also runs off things so you have to expect it to drip, so a cover over the floor would be a good idea.
