i have a defender td5 2003. when it has been left for more than 4 hours it will struggle to start first time and sometimes takes 2 attempts. When it does start it will run lumpy for about 10 seconds and then kick in to normal. I can hear the full pump running which will go on for about 1 minute and then fire it up but occasionally it will start and then cut out straight away, but it will start on the second time but still run lumpy for 10 seconds. also when started from cold can put my foot to the floor and it wont rev at all and then pick up after about 5-10 seconds with my foot flat to the floor. For about 5 minutes running after a cold start it will be sluggish and lack in power and then when warm it wont be as bad but they're is slight delay when you accelerate, any advice will be great, thanks.

Could be fuel run back. Caused by a failing in tank pump? If the pump is getting lazy it would explain the cranking to start and the sluggishness when you put your foot down (ask for more fuel) just a thought

Might be worth checking the ECU plug under the drivers seat to see if it's oiling up inside, it could be that the vibration of the vehicle and voltage supply when running is just enough to maintain a signal on the pins, when the vehicle is left for a while it just gets resistance build up.
