Any recommendations??

Afternoon all,

I’m going to be moving in a month or so and I will have to put my project into storage for up to six months, whilst I sort out a new lock up, presuming planning play ball.
So I’m thinking of renting a shipping container, but starting to think it may not be best through the winter... given it’s current state! Has anybody used one and if so was there any concerns with condensation/corrosion.... I don’t think have a electricity supply either.

Any advice would be truly appreciated,

I bought a huge plastic type tarp from B&Q (or internet - can't remember) I already had a spool of 4mm polypropylene cord.
The tarps have eyelets all the way around and I threaded the cord through those. Draped the tarp over the Landy and used the cord as a draw string to pull it tight around the bottom of the tyres. Keeps the rain and snow off and air whistles underneath to keep it dry and ventilated. You need to put protection over any corners, even if they're not that sharp, as the movement of the tarp in the wind causes it to wear though if it's over a corner of something.

Thanks for this but it will be in a container, I’m more concerned about a build up of condensation or the likes..... it may not see fresh air for six months.

Shipping containers are fairly well sealed, they are designed to float!
They get very hot inside from the sun when closed up.
Unless the air is very dry, you end up with condensation everywhere which will inevitably'rain' periodically. Over and over
Dehumidifier with a drain outside?
I'm not sure a container is the right thing for this

I fear you maybe right.... a secure lock up maybe the next option, albeit more expensive

Put motor into container then sheet over.
We have 3 motors in containers in various forms of builds. yes you can get condensation but the sheet will help divert any drips to the floor. If you can lift the axles/tyres so the don’t get flat spots

Dill some 4inch holes in the sides and put some Louvre vents over the holes. You need fresh flowing air.

find a lock-up local to where you are moving to but not some back alley job,or beg a close friends garage or in laws

Unfortunately I don’t know too many people with empty garages, I’ve already got my mate to store my GS, and now I’m starting to realise why they say it’s one of the most stressful things in life to do......

All my Son's tools and plant equipment were ruined by storing them in a shipping container, all rusted to hell. Just as Kermi_rr says it rained condensate on them in a constant cycle of drying and raining.

And this is my fear...... Think I need to find a lock up ASAP only have a month, whoopsie!
