Any Ideas? All welcome

Evening all,

Firstley, has anyone got a clue as to a rattle/squeek coming from my gearbox area, I only hear it when I apply torque on the drivetrain (going up hill for example) it dosent matter wether it is in high/low box or diff lock. Ive checked all prop uj's and they are fine. There is slight play in the transfer box output bearing but nothing major. Wheel bearings and cv's are ok too. It is begining to pizz me off because I cant get to the bottom of it :frusty:

Secondly, when I brake heavily (ish) just as i come to a stop I get a clunk from the front end (sounds like the axel rocks back)

P.s Has anyone got a power steering pump and if I can afford it, a injection pump for a 1988 2.5td (19j) going cheap?

yu can cure the squeek by getin a louder radio.or always take the mrs wiv ya,that way yul be glad t hear the squeek wen shi shuts up.

Ive got earmuffs for the Mrs, or expanding foam, its more permanant

check your exhaust mount by your centre box as its double rubberd going through a bracket ( rubbers prob perrished and the bolt is touching the mount , thats where my squeak was coming from ) .

the clunk could be your brake pads floating about ? also check your caliper mounts too and your radius arm bushes and go from there .

I do need to replace my radius arm bushes but I wasnt sure wether that would be the cause, hence why I asked. Ial av a luk tomorrow, otherwise I have a grinder

I've ad a luk at the bushes and I think you are right with the clunk. As for the squeak, the exhaust mounts are ok so I'm no closer to finding that out.

ummm is it a constant squeek/ rattle umder load or does it do it once then shuts up ?

All the time there is torque it carries on. I did notice it also happens wen I'm going down hill in low or high box and the landy drops down potholes it makes the noise

Btw has anyone got a power steering pump cos iva ad a luk again today and is is weeping a fair bit now. Also if I can afford it, a injection pump for a 1988 2.5td (19j). Steering pump being a priority though.
