Aloha all,

I'm considering buying a vehicle specifically to modify for both CCV and RTV competition. I would like to spend in the region of £3k on initial purchase and all necessary parts, and can carry out most work myself (exceptions being welding and heavy lifting, i.e. engine out).

I would really appreciate any advice that anyone can provide regards undertaking such a project.

Thanks,

Chris

Leaf or coil?
Either way, fit a cage first. Next (assumingyou'll 'wade') breathers offaxles (and 'boxes) to above your limit.
Air/electric hacksaw to removeunnecessary metal
Diff guards
'Sliders'
fuel tank .(insidevehicle - housed and safe)
4-pt harnesses
unerbody protection
helmet
If you learn to weld and cut metal, most of the above can be done at home.
Moreinforequired to go further... - I trialled a 100" leafer (anyonewantto donate a clutch - V8,LT77s 'box??) with 4-leaf springs, LR bushes, mil. hangers,1/4 cage in RTV. 80" 2.6 (full cage) to be ccv'd.
Also consider on/off road requirements -I accepted off-road limitations and 'body-roll' chasing Beemers. compromise or buy a vehicle and trailer.
£3kwill buy a leaferandkit itout well.

Hadn't made a descision on springs yet, wanted to see what was said here first off. Quite like the idea of leafs though, something nostalgic?(!) The vehicle would be used solely for competition so would only need to pass an MOT to get tax for RTV, road manners wouldn't matter too much as long as I can drive it too and from sites 'cos I don't really want to tow (other than occassional weekend trips to distant contests). Other than the ARC handbook, is there anywhere that I can pick up some tips/guidance on rules and regs, like an idiots guide? The ARC book seems simple but I'm certain there must be more to it..?

Thanks,

Chris
