Hello all.
And before you say archive it, i have, but need an up to date opinion on the subject.

Can you pour in any sort of A/F and it compatable with what's in the system?
Whether it be pink, blue etc. Or is there some a/f you need to stick to, as it were?

Yes - There is the OAT (Organic Acid Technology) type which is any red / orange / pink shade.

There is also the older Ethylene-Glycol type which is blue / green. It's only good for 2 years. If you have a mix of the 2 types then it's only good for 2 years, not the average of the mix!
 
I have heard that if you mix the 2 types , it can "gel" up. Causing blockages in the rad. but better off doing what i did, drain and use the OAT stuff as per LR manual.
 
I think the 'gelling' is an urban legend when it concerns mixing oat and non-oat antifreezes. As Sing says , when mixed they say 2 year service life.



I'm not sure on the mixing of Hoat antifreeze with others though, but it is designed to work in both oat and non-oat systems.
 
There used to be a problem with gelling when the early OAT was mixed with non OAT. Not the case so much with new stuff, ( see the FAQ in the FAQ section) but why risk it. If yu aren't sure what yu have got, then drain, flush and refill the system. Be wary if green antifreeze - yu can get green OAT - Volvo use it, I think.
