Another odd wire

Found another wire in Casper's engine bay that seems to be there purely for decoration.

On one end is a connector that go nicely round the battery terminal, and the other end loses itself under the main fuse box.

It is brown in colour and about 4mm thick, any ideas please.

I have a 300tdi EDC Auto if that helps at all.

Is it coming from the positive or negative terminal?

Thats just it, its not connected to the battery at all at the moment, but looks like it should be.

The Discovery runs fins and starts well, though a little bit slower in this cold weather. I only went to see if the glow plug relay was clicking on when the ignition is on, and it is

This is the little culprit.

Also just now, got a scare, a red light on the dashboard - picture of a car with a spanner inside it, flashed and me and the Disco refused to start. Never seen this before and its not even in the user manual - its all coming out of the wood work today

Are you sure it was a spanner and nkt a key.if i open mine from the fob n dont get in and turn key str8 away mine will show a red car and red key in it.to tell me immobiliser has reset.so lock n open again and fires str8 up

LOL May have been a key. It wouldn't let me lock the car as I did try that to.

Its all ok now, got me worried though.

Still no idea on brown wire, someone on facebook suggested an old alternator wire

I just had a quick look in the dark at my disco which is edc. That wire on mine is connected to the positive terminal on the battery. On mine it leads into the main loom under the fuse box as you say. I couldn't see where it went as it's covered by the protective sleeving of the main loom. Are the fusible links connected? Could be that?

In the picture there is a wire which is on the positive battery terminal, (at the very top of the pic it can be seen, also has a plastic corrugated sleeve)

When I connected this wire up the very end on the battery I'm sure it started smoking, so I have left it off

This is a picture of mine. That wire you spoke of, is connected to the positive as well as the brown wire. (It sits under the brown one in the picture).
Thinking it through, I'm sure there is a feed to an inline fusible link around the point the loom branches off from the glow plug relay. Maybe the other wires you have on there are replacements and the old ones have just been left in situe?. That may explain the smoking you saw. Hope you figure it out!

That's the one, I will have another look tomorrow.

Have no idea how long it has been off for, would this be the cause of a slower starting engine in this colder weather?
