was on my way back from Swansea earleir this morning when crossing the Servern Bridge some rummbling and vibration came through the acc. pedal :( how odd, steering was fine, brakes were fine. pulled over, all seemed well. got back upto 40mph same again. pulled in, couldnt see anything. back off upto 40mph noise went and my girldfriend said she saw something fly off down the road. pulled in AGAIN afte rthe severn to find some of me tread missing!

dodgy retreads! changed the wheel and made it home.

now do i a) fork out £90 and buy another tire and get it fitted to original wheel. or b) sell the remaining 4 on ebay to some sad sap and buy some decent boots!

also how much will a garage charge to change a tire and balance it?

cheers.

PS. these were Bronco Grizzly claws 265/75's :)

na, they were on my 90 when i got it :) the other 3 are wearing fine but i did notice that the drivers side front was lifting the tread a little. i just cant be arsed to fork out around £100 on a spare :( they are good offroad. but retreads are sooo dangerous... not to bad for me though as my 90 only doeas about 65mph :D

i know nothing about bronco's. are they retreads as opposed to remoulds, if i were you i would get onto bronco's about it, see what they say, if they give you some attitude contact one of the landy mags. im pretty clued up in the remoulding industry and i can honestly say this day and age the majority of remoulded tyres are made with better technology than brand new tyres. obviously these are made under licence for bronco's but i would imagine they are probably made in some far flung corner of the developing third world

Grizzly Claws have got a reasonable reputation. Find the sort of rounded lozenge shape bit on the tyre side that gives the age of the tyre.

When I replaced the crap looking tyres mine came with I found the date stamp & the carcasses were 1988 and they'd been retreaded since then!

Remoulds are ok, if they weren't safe they wouldn't be sold. If they're ancient then you're asking fer problems. Looking at the cracking on yours in the pics I'd say they were way past their best.

i dont know if their sold as remoulds or retreads...

just looked at their website. their retreads.

also found the original reciept from previous owner. they were bought on 19 March 2005

the warranty info on the back says that "warranty discontinues below 6mm tread wear due to the nature of the tread design"

also, "no warranty on tyres one year after purchase"... just found that bit, thought i might have had a chance :(

do you think its worth an email with photos yella?

G

its worth a go, but as marcus says, all remoulds/retreads have a date stamp of when the were actually cast, also, the casing will have an original date stamp, if you send em the pics then they will definately ask you for more info, dates etc, but hey, in fer a penny ;)

the other thing is, you dont know what abuse the previous owner put them through

that is true yella, about the previous abuse. ive just been out and all have 9-10mm tread left on them (11mm when new) so i dont think he abused them much. if anything i think ive given them more ****! ive also owned it since june 06 so that would mean that the previous owner had them for just over a year and ive had them the rest. will look for that stamp tonight and email them later or tomorrow i think.

cheers again.
