Evening, in typical Freelander fashion my clutch slave cylinder has blown itself apart ( L series diesel). . I've ordered new clutch hydraulics but until it arrives I thought I'd try to free up the seized release arm. I've scooshed it with penetrating oil and tried to trickle some light oil in past the dust seal. My question is .. should I able to move the release arm myself if it frees up. I've tried pushing the end of a hammer shaft on it and I'm moving the car on its springs but I'm getting only a tiny bit of movement from the release arm. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. It's done 113,000 miles , there was no sign of any clutch slippage.

Yes you should be able to move the release lever by hand, around an inch of free play. ;)

Sounds like mine is well seized then ,it's free initially ( without doing anything ) and then no movement at all. I take it a thump with a big hammer isn't recommended
