Hi
regarding the ABS, TC and HDC lights remaining on
hope someone can help, read various post regarding this both here and other forums, replaced brake switch, front discs and pads, I;ve been told that the codes need to be reset to clear the lights, do I have to go to the dealer or can I reset the codes myself . I've tried taking battery earth off as one forum said
can anybody help please

fault codes are different ta instrument warnings and if ya light or led still on then youve still got a problem. . .:)

hi
don't know if abs working will try tomorrow and post , HDC doesn't appear to be working no brakes coming on

hi
, tried to get abs to work roads too dry I'll have to find some gravel to try it on, also looked at back brakes wheel cylinder had gone Ihave replaced both cylinders and shoes, would this have caused lights to come on
thanks in advance

Well it wont bring yer light on but it will effect the way abs should work you've got a detector on each wheel if say one wheel locks detector tells puter, I'm locked mate, puter o/ps to a solenoid , solenoid reduces pressure ta wheel brake cylinder ta stop brakes [hence the high speed thumping when ya slam yer brakes]warning light staying on could be faulty sensor or wiring, failed solenoid, or puter kaput, mind you thats a very rough guide . . .:)

Test your ABS on a golf green. It's smooth and dam good fun. You can also check your traction control under hard acceleration :D
Golf greens also have sand to test the 4x4 side of things out.

I do not condone the use of 4x4 vehicles on private or public golf greens. You do this at your own risk.

Some ABS/TC/HDC faults have to be cleared via Testbook or similar before the Ecu will allow normal operation - brake switch failure is one of them.

News ta me , thought that any recorded faults would not jepodise a safety feature maybe lr guy could put us right on this. . .:)

is there a way to reset/clear this ourself if we manage to find out which in the ecu or ecm reset/clear pin?

hi
guys thanks for all the help so far,no joy with abs yet
the testbook prog is this landrover only or do local garages have the equipment to do this
if there is a way to clear it myself that would be great at least it would confirm whether changing the brake switch fixed it or not
also is there a way to test abs sensor without taking to garage, I've been told you can test with a multimeter for a failed sensor is this true if so what readings should I expect to see, Are abs sensors easy to change if so how do you remove them from the car
thanks in advance

Tony Me owld chum!
Failures or malfunctions relating to ABS sensors and connections are detected by the ABS ECU. In the event of failure of 2 or More of the ABS sensors. The ABS ECU switches OFF the system and illuminates the ABS TC HDC warning lamps. If a SINGLE sensor fails the ABS ECU maintain a minimum function to provide safe operation and puts on the above warning lamps
Sooo! If yer find out What yer brakes, ABS HDC's is doing you can deduce
If its 1 sensor or multiple sensors! or summat else??
It also makes a difference what year it is , ie upto 2002 or after. and as fer testing sensors? unless yer genned up on the Hall Effect principle and are able to measure Square wave forms Etc you aint got much hope
Get yerself to the breakers yard and av a scrat round ( tell em yer after some obscure bit that they wont av on the shelf?? erm summat daft ie,g/box oil fill plug) whip orf a sensor and put it in yer pocket(Shhhh)and av a play,
PS .If i can be Arsed, i'll av a look on me magic disc and let yer know how they come off. cos i aint done one YET!
Goo ON av a go you aint got owt ter loose and yer not gunner mek it worse??
Good luck!

am i confused now or what,ok its a 1999 1.8 k series(what difference does the year make). Does the brake switch fault need the ABS ecu to be reset by dealer . I will try breakers at the weekendbut if you can look to see how to remove would make it easier to remove at breakers. I will go out now to try abs, HDC not turning on now anyway (I assume its due to the whatever is causing the fault). I think I can give up the testing sensors idea.
Iwill post on return whether abs worked or not
once again thanks for help

hi Mondo
been out for a blast safe to say abs not working slid nicely on gravel back road, almost at the banging head against a wall stage now , would faulty brake switch cause abs to shut down
thanks for help

Dont worry mate yer not the only one thats confused, but apparantly they change the ABS system 2002 so the post 2002 the Ecu can't see a signal from the sensors whilst the vehicle is stationary but after 2002 they can
Dont take all this as gospel thou ,I'm just tryin to save you a few quid.
others might know different. other causes include
Under IGN voltage below 8v, which will clear once it goes 10v+,So unlikely But check
failure of 2 (or more sensors)
Pump motor failure
Valve failure

But again it depends on what ,if any , ABS TC HDC etc, is happening
Some fault cause LIMITED operation, others, NOWT will work
So have a good play and find out what its doing
Sorry I carnt help more, but short of taking it to the stealers to have it diagnosed properly, ££££££. Just a few ideas to try and help

Er no your switch would not cause malfunction , Mondos correct , the most probable thing would be yer wheel sensors , or broken or poor connection [air in yer fluid is one thats missed a lot] after that yer abs puter or yer high speed solenoids, as for the fault re sets i personally do not think they would inhibit a safety feature, unless someone can prove me wrong.best oh luck. . ..:)

ok thanks guys for help so far, will check this the weekend ,any help with how to remove sensors would be good, can't see any ovivious way of removing them.
trip to breakers required I think
If none of this works i think trip to dealers to diagnose
thanks

Carnt be anymore specific with the sensor removal the manual says
Remove bolt (if fitted)????? remove sensor
have a good tug at it, (yer not gunner cause any more problems are yer)
You could try the old close yer eyes and shout LRGUY LRGUY LRGUY
might work???
best o luck
Play wi yer HDC first see if its doin out?
