Land Rover Discovery 300 TDi EGR Blanking Plate

My trip back in my '94 Discovery 300 TDi Auto was great, but the acceleration compared to the TDi manual I drove this Sunday was quite weak.

The guy who owned the 300 TDi I drove on Sunday told me that the turbo cut-in whine I could hear was normal and healthy, and I privately treated that with a bit of scepticism. However, my TDi doesn't make that noise at all, and seems lacking in power in comparison.

Are Auto's lacking in power, compared to manual transmissions?

Just seen the thread exhaust gas valve on a tdi 300, full of interesting reading, with differing opinions, so my question has been answered.

Having driven my 300TDi Auto again this morning, the power output difference between my auto and the manual I drove on Sunday isn't really that noticeable, so I probably won't do the modification.

However, I'm still concerned about the turbo whistle. The manual I drove on Sunday had a distinct whistle when it cut in, but the auto I have doesn't have the whistle. Which is normal?

You get both, my 300Tdi is slient, but I know thats not the case with them all, likewise some TD5's will make the noise, some won't.
