I fitted an aluminium inlet manifold (TF 135) to my Freelander. After fitting it I found out that the one I have does not have the thread fitted for the air temperature sensor.

Would anyone know why this sensor is so close to the cylinder head? I'm thinking about putting it somewhere I can put it in without taking everything apart again

It's close to the inlet valve because the ECU uses the temperature of the inlet to adjust the mixture and timing slightly. The further away from an inlet port, the less accurate and slower the feedback to the ECU is. It as acceptable to fit it just behind the throttle body. There will be enough air velocity a to keep up with temperature changes. Yet still to close enough to the ports to give a reasonably accurate temperature feedback.
