Hi - i was driving my 2.5td 110 today and i smelt a burning smell that was similar to buring rubber. A moment later a big puff of white smoke came into the cab and it stank! Anyway, i opened the bonnet and the smoke was coming from the alternator. I started the engine again when it stopped smoking about 30 seconds later and there was no charge light on so i limped home and tested the currnt on the battery. There is 13.4v when on tick over and when reved up to 17.6v. I am guessing this is way too high and i suspect it may be the voltage regulator?
Am i right or does anybody have any other ideas.

Thanks
