Parked up my 110, 3.9 V8 LPG overnight at a friends house, and when I went to start it in the morning, nothing -both batteries completely flat. I got it started ok with a jump, but then when I got home and turned it off, the batteries were still completely flat, and the charge meter on the dash was reading negative the whole way home. When I started charging it, it was almost as if it was a dead short - the battery charger was at max amps and was buzzing loudly. So I unplugged the alternator and it seemed to correct itself, and the amp charge has slowly been falling over the last hour.

I 'accidentally' went through a massive puddle pretty fast the other day, the water went over the roof :eek: could this have something to do with it? :p

Am I looking at replacing the alternator?

Cheers :)

Sounds like a dead short in the alt. Most likely in the static coils - alternators don't have permant magnets in them, they rely on the battery to energise two of the coils to create the magnetic field.

You can eitherr take it aprt and see if there is anything obviously shorting it out, or get a new one!

Nice one cheers for the reply. I'll take it off tomorrow and have a looksie. Do you know by any chance whether the alternators for 3.5 V8s are the same as the ones for 3.9 V8s?

Thanks again
