The deed has been done. The wonderful 4.6 Rangie has gone, and has been
replaced with a much more sensible Disco Series 1. I really loved that car,
but 16-17 mpg and the prospect of future servicing and maintenance costs was
killing me. The trouble was that most of the UK seems to agree, at least
the ones who didn't respond to my many adverts. Even eBay didn't make a
sensible reserve. I bought it just as the new RR was released, and took a
terrible hit on the price when I sold. Now it's a dealer's problem,
although knowing my luck he will sell it within a week for 4 grand more than
he gave me for it.

Stand by for some Disco queries. First out of the block: current tyres
(well-worn and due for immediate replacement) are 235/70/16. Will 245/75/16
fit without rubbing? I have Googled this question and come up with a
variety of answers ranging from yes to no. Someone on this group is bound
to know from experience.

Hi,
I have a sreies 1 disco with an inch and a bit lift kit. I have fitted
245/75 bfg mt's and they rub in two places. one is on the front radius arms
at full lock and the other is the rear wheel arch, just at the back of the
arch as it returns under at the bottom, it is only on off road articulation
situations. I intend to cut the arch a little bit and manufacture a pretty
checkerplate bit to make after.
Cheers Nick

Thanks Nick and Mark. So that's a yes and a no, then :)

The problem with BFG ATs (which I intend to fit again after being delighted
with them on the RR) is that they last so bloody long. I did 30K with them
on the RR and they were only about half worn, so any tyre I get has got to
be suitable for at least the next two/three years. If I fit 235/70 and I
later decide on a 1" lift, then they're going to look like roller skate
wheels, but if I fit 245/75 there seems to be a significant chance they will
rub on the rear body (the lock stops I can cope with). Decisions,
decisions...

Cheers guys.

Just out of interest, what about 235/85s ?

235/70s look OK with only an inch lift. they'd look a bit daft with a 2" or
3".

Mine has 235/70s and looks fine.
